Class of 96'

Project Overview

This was an incredibly rewarding project to mix, revisiting a defining moment in South Africa’s sporting history — the triumph of South Africa national soccer team at the Africa Cup of Nations.

A key objective was shaping the stadium crowds so they felt unmistakably South African. The chants, reactions and energy were carefully crafted to immerse viewers in the atmosphere of those historic matches, placing them right in the stands.

The interviews sat at the heart of the storytelling and demanded clarity and presence. Former players and coaching staff reflect on the tournament with firsthand insight, with the narrative centring around Clive Barker, who led the team at the time.

Integrating archive footage added another layer of authenticity. Restoring as much usable audio as possible from those recordings helped transport the audience back to 1996 and the emotion of that extraordinary victory.
