Working on Adulting came with a real challenge. Xhosa is not my first language, yet I was responsible for editing all dialogue before the mix on Season 1. That meant being meticulous with nuance, pacing and performance to maintain clarity and authenticity throughout the series.

The sound design was bold, hyper-real and intentionally exaggerated, matching the characters’ larger-than-life personalities and their party-fuelled world. The drama gave sound a strong narrative role, especially as the characters navigated messy relationships with ex-wives, friends and rivals.

I built internal sound design layers to reflect emotional processing and inner thoughts, giving the audience access to each character’s psychological state. I also developed distinct sonic triggers and thematic motifs for key characters, using animalistic textures and tonal identities to define them—particularly in montage sequences and heightened violent moments.
